About Us-

David McFarland is a native southern Californian, he has called San Diego County home since 1976, and is married with 3 children. He enjoys sports, camping, cars, and construction/ handyman projects, he also enjoys family activities and is active with his church. David graduated from Escondido High School, and then graduated tops in his class in 1981 from Phoenix Institute of Technology for Architectural drafting and design.

After college he worked for a large commercial contractor for a short time doing drafting and design work. Then at the end of 1981, at a young age, he started his own business, the start of McFarland Drafting & Design. He started doing freelance work for other Designers and Architects as well as small additions and remodel jobs for owners and contractors, then building up to large custom homes, tenant improvements, and commercial projects with a vast array of clients. During that time David visited many construction projects, learning the latest designs and construction techniques to help him produce builder friendly plans. He also did many graphic design projects for an array of clients.
As McFarland Designs grew they did larger projects and hired additional help through the years. He also has self-learned ACAD, Sketch-up, and all the Adobe programs to help aid in his design & planning projects.

David’s 3 children have done very well, his eldest son graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for an Architectural degree and now is a lead designer for a large architecture firm, his other son graduated from UCLA with a Geology Engineering degree and is a geologist working for a soils engineering firm, and his daughter graduated from New Orleans University with a Graphic & Web design degree and now has her own successful business Rayco design, we are hoping one day they may partner up with McFarland Designs-

McFarland Designs specializes in very complete detailed plans, a vast knowledge in construction, and the ability to do creative and functional designs.
David has also built 2 speculative building projects and has hands-on experience in almost every phase of construction, this is helpful in knowing the application and costs of varying construction techniques, helping the client stay within their budget.
